I figure if we have a thread about pets, work, buying homes, etc., then maybe a parenting thread might be fun/useful too! I know we have some parent chickens. Sharing advice, asking questions, venting, AWing achievements or pics of kids. Stuff like that. Here's a little questionnaire to get us started.

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they?

Best advice you received/words of wisdom to share:

Favorite memories/funny stories related to your children:

Parenting fail you've been guilty of:

Any other facts or info you want to share that might end up as useful background info:

And you can share a photo if you want to, but I know this is a public message board so you may be hesitant- I generally am!

    Expecting/TTC chickens, join us too!

    Expecting mothers:

How far along are you and what is your due date?

    Best pregnancy moment so far?

Favorite and least favorite thing about being pregnant:

What are you most looking forward to?

Any particular things you want to share with us like birth plans, if you're high risk, anything you think is relevant and are comfortable sharing.

    TTC-ers

How long have you been trying to conceive?

    Have you told anyone?

Are you charting or just going with it?

    Fears or anxieties?

Anything else you want to share:

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they? One daughter, S, currently 6.5 mos old (Sept 23rd)

Best advice you received/words of wisdom to share: I'm still a noob at this, but I guess one thing I've learned is that you can research shit until the cows come home and still not get a definitive answer about what's best. So, just go with your gut and do what works for your family!

Favorite memories/funny stories related to your children:
I remember when she was about 3 months old or so, I was changing her diaper very early in the morning. She was still tired and just wanted to eat and go back to sleep, so she was quite angry. Despite being so angry and crying up a storm, as soon as I took her feet out of her pajamas, she grabbed her toes just like how she does when she's happy and playing with them.

Parenting fail you've been guilty of: I dropped my phone on her head when she was just a couple weeks old because I was trying to get a picture of her sleeping so cute and peacefully... Also, we co-sleep. Didn't really want to, and she used to sleep better in her crib than she does now. She might have gotten more used to it except I was lazy and never brought her back to her bed after I fed her because we usually just dozed back off to sleep together.

Any other facts or info you want to share that might end up as useful background info:
The most relevant information right now is that she's exclusively breastfed, despite some trouble in the beginning. Quite proud of it! It would be easier to just give formula instead of pump in the bathrooms at school when I have long classes, but I'm really committed to this for at least until she's 12 months old, but I'm willing to go longer (right now, two years is the limit I'm comfortable with but it could change).

    Great idea, A&O!

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they? One chick, he's 10 months.

Best advice you received/words of wisdom to share: I've generally just taken the advice to heart, "Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive." If I let myself worry about all the things I could worry about, I wouldn't enjoy a second of parenting. And patience. Just so much patience.

Favorite memories/funny stories related to your children: Oh, he's just a stinker. Favorite memory is probably the night the dog started attacking my hand when it was inside one of the kiddo's puppets, and he thought it was hilarious.

Parenting fail you've been guilty of: Seriously, so many. The funniest one that isn't too bad to admit to in public is when my son got his first exposure to peanut butter . . . from the dog's rawhide. All kinds of wrong.

Any other facts or info you want to share that might end up as useful background info: We're already trying for a second chick, though I should probably get my head checked out because this parenting stuff is relentless!

I'll play the TTC game too.

How long have you been trying to conceive? We are on our second cycle, but my cycles are long, so this is my third month.

Have you told anyone? Well, WB knows because I still use the TTC boards there. Two of my IRL friends know, and my sister.

Are you charting or just going with it? Of course I'm charting. I can't do anything without becoming obsessive. I love charting. I'll actually probably miss it when I'm done. (No I won't.)

Fears or anxieties? That it's going to be as hard to conceive this time as it was the first time. I have borderline PTSD from TTC a few summers ago because I'm a natural worrier and I'm convinced there's something wrong with me. I just wish it could be easy. Currently I'm concerned that I won't ovulate this cycle . . . or that I will get lazy and not feeling like fucking when I need to.

Anything else you want to share: I want to be done reproducing as much as I want to have a second child. And I really want a second child.

How long have you been trying to conceive?
    Six months or so

    Have you told anyone?
Chickens!! A few bffs, and my cousins, and my sis. I told my mom over the summer that we were going to start a few months after that. I don't think B has told anyone. We've alluded to it to his bro, but I don't think he gets it yet.

Are you charting or just going with it?
Charting. We just went with it for a month, and then I started charting. Makes things easier.

    Fears or anxieties?
Oh so many. That we won't be able to conceive - do I want to be child free, or do I want to adopt? I know I don't want to go the IVF route. That I'll get PPD. That I'll be put on bed rest and not be able to work. That I live in the most expensive state for day care. What age gap to have between my kids (never mind I don't even have one yet). Yeah.

Anything else you want to share:
I like baby photos and don't care that they are blowing up my facebook and instagram feeds. Not sorry.

    I'm a hybrid...

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they? We technically have one daughter. She passed away in December. I'm probably totally outing my beeself by answering this.

    Expecting mothers

How far along are you and what is your due date? 6w / due 11.27, Thanksgiving Day

Best pregnancy moment so far? Got to see the nugget on u/s this week.

Favorite and least favorite thing about being pregnant: So far, so good. I'm feeling good and healthy, ridiculously better than last time, hoping it continues. Least favorite is that I really want to demolish the Irish cider in my fridge and can't. Also, I miss Starbucks.

What are you most looking forward to? Meeting our little one!

Any particular things you want to share with us like birth plans, if you're high risk, anything you think is relevant and are comfortable sharing. I'm high-risk due to my history/loss in December, but we have no reason to think the same thing will happen again... I'll be more closely monitored this time, and we are not going public until after 20w. Right now, only my best friend and parents know.

We are excited to be expecting again so soon, I'm just worried how I am going to physically be by the time this baby arrives in November. At delivery, I'll have been pregnant for 14 of the last 17 months.

YM, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending you chicken feathers and good thoughts for your pregnancy.

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they? 2 Chicks - The boy - 13y, The girl - 12y. They are a year apart exactly.

Best advice you received/words of wisdom to share: Do whatever works in your house. Beyond all the books and unsolicited parenting advice you get, it's invalid if it doesn't work for you.

Favorite memories/funny stories related to your children: They are truly like twins. They had a secret language as babies and toddlers, potty trained together and often sought each other out when in a group. Now, they have a typical teen/pre-teen relationship. I am amazed at how much of their personalities are born-in. They're very different and I love that. Funniest story: My kids stole a duck. No really, they did. We used to hang out with a group of single parents once a week at a little hamburger joint by a lake. The kids were about 5 & 6 at that time. The ducks on this lake are super tame because people feed them all the time. We get home that evening and I'm tucking the girl in and hear this peeping noise. I thought it was one of those Easter toys. So I say "M, what is that noise?" and her eyes get really big and she says "It was J's idea!"
    "WHAT was J's idea???"
She opens the drawer to her night stand and out leaps a little fuzzy duckling. Screaming and yelling, catching the duck, "Get in the car!!!" We drove the little duck, wrapped in a towel back to the lake it was taken from, found the mama and the rest of the babies and let it go. I later asked how they snuck the duck home and the boy said he had it in his pocket! Poor duck!

Parenting fail you've been guilty of: Yelling. I lose it, on occasion. Don't all moms? I'm certainly not above apologizing for overreacting and talking things out later.

Any other facts or info you want to share that might end up as useful background info: Chicks' dad and I are divorced. He's an idiot, insecure, and annoys the kids. Their dad is also remarried. Stepmom is supa klassy and has 2 kids of her own. G has been in their lives since they were 7 & 8 and they have a fantastic relationship with him.

And you can share a photo if you want to, but I know this is a public message board: Nope, nope, nope.

Anything else you want to share: I'm also a birth mom. He's 16 and it's a very open adoption. He and the chicks call each other siblings and spend lots of time together.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, YM. Wishing you love, safety, and good health in your pregnancy and delivery! <3

How many chicks do you have, and how old are they? One daughter; she'll be nine months next week.

Best advice you received/words of wisdom to share: "Live and learn." Only half of what we planned has worked out. I didn't return to work after three months' leave, we still haven't utilized her bassinet or crib, and lord help us if we shower, alone, half the time.

Favorite memories/funny stories related to your children: She's a complete and total ham. No matter the mood she's in, she will completely turn her charm on, and showboat around the moment an outsider shows her attention. Yesterday in Trader Joe's, she badly wanted out of the cart and into my arms, but as soon as an older lady cooed her way, she stopped lunging forward and whining, and began blowing raspberries, smiling, and baah baaaaah'ing all over herself.

Parenting fail you've been guilty of: I promised myself we would skip purees, and/or I would make all her meals, from scratch, But does she ever love those Ella's Kitchen food pouches! I've totally given up on having every meal be homemade and composed of table food; not worth the time and struggle when she beer bongs these godforsaken pouches. And hey! They're organic, and made without any additives, so I suppose it's alright.

Any other facts or info you want to share that might end up as useful background info: Really interested in Waldorf-inspired parenting, and baby sign language. Hoping to give this little lady a sibling, in the fall or winter of next year.

Haha, touche! I'm really conscious (re: obsessive) of what she eats, and was initially kind of nervous that I was loading her with processed food. The brand we give her occasionally is really good, though. If the package says, "carrots and parsnips", the ingredient list is literally, "organic carrots and organic parsnips." I dig that.
