Happy Spooktober, friends and familiars! I feel like the last couple of years got pretty convoluted and heavy so this year I'm going to keep it a bit lighter. Scoring: The challenge runs from right now until 11:59 on October 31. You will get two points for watching any movie that you have never seen before, and one point for watching a movie that you have already seen. You get no points for watching the same movie a second (or more) times during this month, unless you actually watch Hocus Pocus 31 days in a row, which definitely nobody should do. Watch any three shorts for 2 points. To count for points, the movie must have the "horror" genre tag on IMDb. (Do scroll down to the mid-bottom of the page, because sometimes films have multiple genres and only two or three actually display at the top). In honour of this year's It: Chapter Two, Pet Sematary and Doctor Sleep, let's finally give Stephen King his due. Watch any movie based on a Stephen King story, and get one extra point. Make sure to check the genre tags, because not every story has been adapted as a horror, and those won't count (eg: Stand By Me or The Shawshank Redemption). Not to worry, there are still a billion left to choose from, and remakes of each. Movie of the Month: I'm going to cheat a little here, because technically this is not a feature film. It is, however, certainly long enough, and told in two parts like the new one, and anyway I make the rules around here. Watch both halves of the 1990 mini-series It and get five additional points. Bonus Round: Our third bonus category is Creature Features. You will get one additional point for any movie where the bad guy is an it (see what I did there?). But no, actually, It does not count here because clowns are not creatures and no I don't care that Spoiler It turns into a spider at the end. I will, however, give you a second bonus point for any Stephen King creatures, such as Cujo. I hope this will be pretty easy to score, but if a judgment call becomes necessary, hit up me or @Honey for a verdict. (I'm leaning heavily towards animal-type creatures though, so keep that in mind, because I do not want another Pumpkinhead debate!) Rabb.it has sadly shut down so there are currently no plans on the schedule for our usual Chicken Movie Nights, but @Honey and I are beta testing other services and if we can get one to work we'll let you know. Happy haunting!
