I thought we might want a different place to chat about our fave Dem hopefuls as we watch the primaries play out, toss around our favorite policy ideas, and maybe also let each other know about the down-ballot races we're excited about.

    So far I’m watching:

    Corey Booker
    Kamala Harris

(Potentially running?) Sherrod Brown, Kristin Gillibrand, maybe Kolbuchar? (Sp?)

No one else is garnering any interest for me at this time.

Klobuchar is announcing this Sunday. She hasn’t outright said that’s what the event’s purpose is, but that’s what it is.

I've got to look into Kamala Harris more--I don't know much about her but have heard good things.

I'm REALLY into Kirsten because I've heard her speak the most (she was interviewed on Pod Save America a few weeks ago). I love Kamala and Corey as well.

I'm also excited to see the platform the party comes up with. There are so many great ideas and I hope they put together cool pieces from each candidate.

I'm happy to have so many good possibilities as of now. I would like it if Joe Biden and Bernie stayed out of it, but I know that is too much to hope for.

I’m team Kamala. I’m on her email list and she’s pretty great. The last one was pretty much fuck 45 for being an asshole to trans heroes.

P is very about Kamala, but I'm more lukewarm. She made some disappointing (to me, not for the overall party platform) endorsements during the most recent election that I'm not fully over. I understand that they were probably more about strategy than ideology. That and she seems juiced in, and that automatically makes me wary. I wouldn't be sad about her winning though.

I'm very curious what the Dems have in mind for Abrams.

I've heard rumors that Schumer wants her to run for Senate.

This was the speculation on MSNBC last night after she gave the response. They were also speculating that the dems would want Beto to run for Senate again since he may have a better chance at beating Cornyn.

I just hope Bernie doesn’t run because despite liking him I’m done with Bernie cultists and their tunnel vision on where the party should be.

I haven't done my research on many of the candidates (I will!) but I've looked into Kamala quite a bit, and while I'm all for women of color and definitely props to her for all she's accomplished, she has taken some questionable stances that I need to see her address before i would give her a shot-she was very pro private prisons as attorney general and that's something that has decimated the black community, so that bothers me. She's been dodging those questions and claiming to be the opposite of what her record reflects and I would need an acknowledgement and apology as well as an explanation of how her ideas have shifted in the last twenty years since then. That said, obviously if it came down to her vs Trump, I would vote for her.

@Chevere Kamala has leaned hard into the Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez policy book. I am not sure if thats really her truth or if she just sees AOC’s fan base and Bernie’s hard line fans waiting for a voice on the big stage. I think that's why right now Gillibrand and Booker are reading more authentic. They seem to be speaking the same notes they always have. (Kolbuchar hasn’t gotten a ton of play here yet so I can’t say where I feel like shes landing on this spectrum).

Definitely hoping Biden, Bernie, and Warren step out of this race. (Sorry Biden and Warren fans!).

Kamala is problematic for sure. I need to do a deep dive to figure out how much. I love Liz Warren (obvs) but I don’t think she beats Trump nationally. I think she’d be an amazing president though.

Yea honestly I dont know who I find more problematic between Biden, Bernie and Kamala. I have gripes with all three. I think I dislike Bernie the most because I think he added to the division on the Dem side that bolstered Trump and I'm honestly not convinced that was coincidental. Warren I haven't really had feelings about beyond the PR blunder, but I agree with Canal that she would likely lose. I'm hoping someone else other than those four climbs the ladder.

My feeling is that as much as I’d like to be picky about policy, the stakes are so high that factors like charisma and how they look and sound on tv, as shallow as those are, are necessary if you want the person to win. I like all the people who’ve thrown their hats in, despite some of them having major flaws, but I don’t know if any of them have that “it” factor. Obama had it, AOC has it, Beto has it, but out of the confirmed runners I’m not sure any of them have it to the same extent, as powerful as some of their personalities are.

I totally agree Fish. A big part of me is rooting for Kamala because out of everyone I know who’s announced or is expected to, I feel like she’s the most likely to inspire enough people to make sure we don’t end up with more Trump or maybe a different republican. But she needs to be on TV as like a bright light more. She was great grilling Justice Karapist, but women can only be so aggressive

I did read an interesting article posing that Booker has the “Jimmy Carter effect”

Basically calm, promoted love/unity, doesn’t rock the boat either way. The last field this big was Carter’s, and Booker has his endorsement, so its a possibility. (Not saying the article is for sure right, I could just buy people wanting the antithesis of Trump down to a more relaxed personality).

After the Virginia gorvernment seemingly combisted overnight, I’m sure we can’t really tell our frontrunners until opposition research has had time to do its digging.

Yes!! I voted for him during the primary but was absolutely horrified that a lot of his supporters were unable to let t go after he lost. Continuing with the Hillary insults. That didn't help anyone except Trump! I know of at least 4 people who then did not vote in the election and 1 person who voted for Trump as a protest vote. My state went blue but still. Come on.

I’m still really, really upset at the Bernie bros. I think Bernie has amazing ideas and the Democratic Party needs that push, but fuck if we couldn’t stand together strong against Trump. I know it’s important that we continue to lean left and push the old democratic elite to remain progressive but at the same time I want a candidate that will fucking win.

Basically I need Beto with more experience or a military background.

I’d settle for a left-leaning celebrity with a law degree. It takes a lot of name recognition to beat the guy who gets name dropped in 90s hip-hop lyrics and appeared in everyone’s second favorite childhood Christmas movie.

True but unless Tom Hanks or Oprah wants to be president idk what we’ve got. We at least need someone who can pull red state voters in and maybe even military/gun/Christian people. Also maybe weed legalization will cut across. I just don’t think a typically liberal “all the right progressive ideas” person is gonna cut it.

Even at Trump’s worst, a lot a lot of people are still going to vote for him. They don’t give a shit about anyone else.

Curious to see where the field goes. Gillibrand is local to me, so I feel I have decent sense of her and I like the work she has done with/for victims of sexual assault. I think Kamala is kind of a hack and wish she was more authentic.

So far I like Gillibrand and Booker, both personally and based on who I think has the best chances of winning.
